Cookies and similar technologies we use

popkorn.tech doesn't use tracking cookies. We don't set analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party trackers anywhere on our website. This page covers the small handful of strictly-necessary cookies the product does use, and the ones we deliberately don't.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Some are essential — like the one that keeps you signed in. Others are used to track your behaviour across sites for advertising or analytics. This page explains which kinds we use, where, and why.

"Cookies" here also covers similar technologies — local storage, session storage, and the small set of items our authentication system needs to remember a session. We've grouped them all here for clarity.

2. Cookies on popkorn.tech (our marketing website)

None. We don't set cookies on popkorn.tech, and we don't load any analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking scripts. You can browse the marketing site, read the pricing page, or open the legal pages without anything being written to your browser by us.

Your browser may still store technical items the underlying hosting infrastructure needs to deliver pages — but popkorn neither sets nor reads any of them.

3. Cookies on app.popkorn.tech (the dashboard)

Once you sign in to the dashboard, we use a small set of strictly-necessary cookies and browser-storage items. Each one exists for a specific functional reason — without them the product wouldn't work, or it would forget basic preferences every time you reloaded.

NameTypePurposeLifespan
Authentication session HTTP-only cookie Keeps you signed in. Stores the encrypted session token used to authenticate every request. Provided by our authentication infrastructure. Session + refresh window (cleared on sign-out)
Organisation context cache Local storage (yv_org_cache) A short-lived hint of your current organisation, used to render the dashboard faster on first paint. Refreshed from the server within minutes. 5 minutes (auto-refreshed)
Sidebar state Cookie (sidebar:state) Remembers whether you collapsed or expanded the dashboard sidebar. Persistent until cleared
Test mode flag Local storage + cookie (testMode) Used only by our internal automated test accounts. Not present for production users. Session only (test accounts only)

That's the entire list. We don't set anything else.

4. Third-party, analytics, and advertising cookies

We don't currently use any third-party analytics, advertising, marketing, or tracking cookies — not on the marketing site, not in the dashboard. We don't share cookie-level data with any third party for advertising purposes.

If this changes in the future, we'll update this page first and disclose what we're adding and why. Anything beyond strictly-necessary will require your explicit consent before it's set, in line with Section 6 of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

5. How to control cookies

You can manage cookies through your browser. Most browsers let you:

  • See what cookies are stored, and delete specific ones
  • Block all cookies from a site
  • Block third-party cookies
  • Clear all cookies when you close the browser

Heads up: if you block our authentication cookie, you won't be able to sign in to the dashboard — there's no workaround, because authentication fundamentally needs to remember who you are between requests. If you clear UI-preference cookies, the dashboard will simply fall back to defaults (sidebar expanded, etc.).

Help pages for popular browsers: Chrome · Firefox · Safari · Edge.

6. Do Not Track

We honour the "Do Not Track" signal in browsers that send it. Since we don't track you in the first place, there's nothing for us to disable — but we want to be on the record about it.

7. Changes to this policy

If we add a new cookie or change how an existing one works, we'll update this page and the "Last Updated" date at the top. If we ever introduce non-essential cookies — analytics, marketing, anything beyond strictly-necessary — we'll ask for your explicit consent before they're set, and you'll be able to opt in or out by category.
